
What is Heart Coherence?
The HeartMath Institute, an organization that pursues the science of interconnectivity, defines heart coherence as:
“[It is] the synchronization of our physical, mental and emotional systems. It can be measured by our heart-rhythm patterns: The more balanced and smooth they are, the more in sync, or coherent we are. Stress levels recede, energy levels increase and our brain and what HeartMath calls the “heart brain” work together. It is a state of optimal clarity, perception and performance.”
Simply put, coherence describes the purposeful alignment of our internal selves and our external actions.
Why We Seek Coherence
Heart coherence might be the scientific approach to internal and external alignment, but the idea of coherence is also foundational to other terms, concepts and practices. “The Power of Intention,” “Manifesting,” “The Law of Attraction” and even mindfulness all embrace cohesion between our heart and mind, or internal way of being, and our actions.
No matter what you call it, coherence asks that we each seek to create a rich, clear and confident inner life in order to have a balanced, joyful and successful external life.
Coherence is also a large part of what Ralf and I seek to understand and share at MindGourmet. As we both continue our personal journeys to know ourselves better, we want to inspire others to do the same.
