“The Crossroads of Should and Must – Find and Follow your Passion”
by Nina from MindGourmet
There are two paths in life
“There are two paths in life: Should and Must. We arrive at this crossroads over and over again, and every day. We get to choose.”
These words are written on the backside of Elle Luna’s Book “The Crossroads of Should and Must” and – Whoops! – you opened it, and you read and read and read.
It all started with a recurring dream
For Elle Luna, it all started with a recurring dream of a white room. Following a friend’s advice to start looking for it, she found her white room, which soon became her atelier. At that time Elle was still working as a very successful graphic designer and felt more and more torn between the world of her work and the world of her. She finally decided for her “Must”, her calling, the inner urge to express herself through her art and left behind her conventional world of “Shoulds”.
This is how Elle defines Should and Must:
“Should is how others want us to show up in the world — how we’re supposed to think, what we ought to say, what we should or shouldn’t do. It’s the vast array of expectations that others layer upon us. When we choose Should the journey is smooth, the risk is small.
Must is different—there aren’t options and we don’t have a choice. Must is who we are, what we believe, and what we do when we are alone with our truest, most authentic self. It’s our instincts, our cravings and longings, the things and places and ideas we burn for, the intuition that swells up from somewhere deep inside of us. Must is what happens when we stop conforming to other people’s ideals and start connecting to our own. Because when we choose Must, we are no longer looking for inspiration out there. Instead, we are listening to our calling from within, from some luminous, mysterious place.”
What you’ll find in the book
“The Crossroads of Should and Must” is divided into four parts: The Crossroads, The Origin of Should, Must and The Return. They describe Elle’s path to her life-changing decision, the attributes of both Should and Must and how to share your calling with others.
The book contains powerful exercises
- how to find your Must,
- how to deal with your fear and resistance following it,
- how to make space for your Must
- how to take action towards it
- and how to share it with the rest of the world
“The Crossroads of Should and Must” is beautifully illustrated by Elle Luna who uses her expressive art to convey her message. Looking at the pages gives your eyes, mind, and heart pure joy!
